Conference Excursion (May 26, Awaji Island and Kobe)
All registered FOA10 participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the Hokudan-Town Earthquake Memorial Park, the whirlpools in the Naruto Strait, and the beautiful city of Kobe on May 26.
The Hokudan-Town Earthquake Memorial Park was constructed in commemoration of the "Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster" (Magnitude 6.9, January 17, 1995). You can see photos and documents of the devastation caused by the earthquake, and the fault scarp exposed at the site after the earthquake. The Naruto Whirlpool, one of the world's largest whirlpools, is caused by the difference in the ebb and flow of the tides between the Seto Island Sea and the Pacific Ocean. You can enjoy the great view from a sightseeing ship. Then, we will arrange transportation to and from the Kobe Harborland. The Kobe Harborland is a shopping and entertainment complex along the oceanfront of the beautiful seaport, offering many cafes, restaurants, shopping malls, etc. You are welcome to enjoy the wonderful night views of Kobe and have dinner on the harborland. (Dinner is not part of the tour, so please feel free to have it on your own.)
